Now, don't get me wrong, this is just too little too (extremely) late. .COM is the domain that will always prevail. The idea that this will somehow move adult into that TLD is just insane.

http://xbiz.com/news_piece.php?id=8969:

"According to ICM Registry, the application for a .XXX domain is aimed at creating an identifiable area of the web that will help protect children from adult content while also enabling 'responsible adult-entertainment website operators to self-organize and self-regulate on a voluntary basis.'”

Even more bullshit:

"IFFOR also would promote the adoption and usage of the .XXX sTLD, as well as responsible business conduct within the adult community, communication between the community and other Internet stakeholders and business practices that safeguard children online and combat child pornography."

Again, persons in the illegal child porn market have nothing to do with legit operators, hence, the idea that this will protect children is absurd. Total bullshit. Children can also just as easily browse over to .XXX. They have proven to be more tech savvy than their parents.

The only weapons against a child visiting porn sites or chatting with a 30+ year old pedophile is a vigilant parent--period!

well with .xxx, parental filtering softwares would work much better but unless they force all adult wm to move over to .xxx version of their existing domain don't think this is gonna work. However, think they are talking about kids who accidentally run into these sites not the ones that intentionally do but nevertheless better filters could make it harder for them mind not all kids are smart enough ;)

unless they force all adult wm to move over to .xxx version of their existing domain don't think this is gonna work. Yeah, how will they legally decide if the owner of chocha.net or chocha.com has the right to chocha.xxx? The first to register it? A coin toss? Then what will the owner of the other do? He isn't just going to drop his domain. I think the whole idea is ridiculous.

Maybe uncle Sam will buy out every one elses domains to shut them down. Uncle Sam loves to go into debt. :D

I have been following the discussion on GFY on this. Someone over there listed the hurdles any forced action congress my try to take and it looks like this is dead before it even starts.

sad thing is he who is on the list of
adult webmasters who are in support
of .xxx are one bunch of sad motherfuckers.
naturally they no doubt already own popular
.com's and will get their .xxx handed to them.

it is quite possible that this will cause all usa
webmasters to have a .xxx for adult stuff
which gives the goverment the ability to tax
us and do it quite easily.

let alone shut us down etc etc.
then again visa could shut all of us everywhere
down much easier than any goverment.
imho

I do wish visa would take a stand against x sales
as they are in 99% of all cases, a pure scam and
that is easily proven. same with free trials. scams.
I do wish 2257 intended to go after the little april
operators of this business.
we would all be much better off in the long and short run.
I despise both of those items in this industry.

Here is some opposition.

Hymes further added that a statement made by ICM Registry representative Jason Hendeles saying that .XXX had garnered the support of "the industry and the free speech groups" incorrectly implied that the FSC was among those groups.

The FSC instead has expressed full support of the .kids sTLD as a more effective tool for fighting Internet child porn."

"To clarify, the Free Speech Coalition has never, does not now, and will not support a .XXX TLD, voluntary or otherwise," the FSC said in a statement. "It believes that the implementation of such a TLD will create a likely 'ghettoization' effect that will not only be counter productive to the best interests of the adult entertainment industry while providing no countervailing protection to children."

Why didn't they? From what I heard she was 16~17 when she started "working" for them, or am I wrong?

I also agree that the .xxx is a whole load of crap. Historically it has been proven the more you try to supress, the more rebellious people become.
