I'm so sick and tired of all the security bullshit and spyware crap with Windows that I'm considering switching over to a Power Mac. Seems every day I have a New bug to fix and it's getting really fucking annoying.... :feels-hot

For some major applications, maybe. But for others not.
But my applications are mostly for our business, finding equivalents for those is impossible. Like ThumbsPlus, AdvanceSubmitter, etc. I would need to buy another computer and make that my everyday computer and just leave this one for the business.
As for programming, I am waiting for Lazarus (lazarus.freepascal.org/) to come out of beta. It's a Delphi equivalent. This I might do without for a copy of KBasic (http://www.kbasic.com/), it will be out sometime in November. I have to see what it can really do. It's suppose to be Linux and Windows cross-platform. A Mac compatible version will be out in the near future.
I was pinning my hopes on PureBasic (http://www.purebasic.com/). But that has not materialized because it's missing a RAD, which is what I need. It's sad because it's the only BASIC that compiles to machine code (binary) instead of byte-code or p-code.

I got a G5 with the dual 2 gig processors upgraded to 4 gigs of RAM a year ago, and I couldn't be more happy with it.
I'm going to have to get up to 8 gigs eventually. :D
You're right about not being able to use your PC programs, last time a checked they hadn't come out with a version of virtualpc that works on the powermac. It takes some getting used to but I've been able to fine replacements for every program I had on my PCs. Most programs I used are way better on this thing.

Don't ThumbsPlus, AdvanceSubmitter and the like work on WINE? Or is the Window emulator, WINE, still a work in progress?
Instead of a new computer, why not an extra hard drive? Multiboot Windows and Linux. Have a partition with a common file format to exchange data between the two. And so on.
I'm surpised that software specific to this business is Windows only with no Unix equilalent. Especially since most of the servers on the net are BSD and Linux. This looks like a good opportunity for a programer.

Why run WINE when I can just run Windows. Also, WINE is not 100%.

Yes, I multiboot now. It's a pain. I want a separate computer for my Linux stuff. No need to have a common file format. Mandrake 10 can read NTFS and can read/write to FAT and FAT32.
I am thinking of converting my Windows NT4 server to Mandrake and Apache. But I will loose some expensive software I have bought over the years. I will research it some more.

:thinking Hmmmmmm....
But unfortunately I'm not around quite often enough (yet) to be able to keep up with anything I may start.......
Maybe when I am able to be around more often, perhaps Leo and NelsonN might agree to a geek-section for me to moderate?? :Graucho

No, not yet anyways. The board is still so small that if I let you moderate I'll have nothing to do around here, will be too boring for me. But you can start a geeky thread anytime no prob at all. Btw, Nelson does already have his own geeky board http://www.linuxbasic.net/

I just started it.
Looks like the Gambas BASIC (an open-source Visual Basic for Linux) folks aren't taking to it like I had hoped. I got an e-mail from the developer of KBasic (another Visual Basic clone for Linux, which will be cross-platform: Windows, Linux, MAC OS X) and he said he will place a link to my board. I am hoping for the release soon.
Anyway, I just decided to install the latest Lazarus/Free Pascal (a Delphi clone so cross-platform it's insane) and it looks like they are gaining on Version 1. Woo Hoo! It still has some more to go, but it is a lot more stable now.
