DVD paysites

I obviously have no personal experience running and maintaining paysites, much less dvd paysites. I was at drinkmorepostmore.com and a few people were talking about how difficult it is to encode dvds to web. is it really? i thought it was just tedious almost mechanical method. why does it take so much time? and forgive me for my lack of knowledge in this area but what does encode mean?

dunno nothing about dvd but encoding means when you're converting movies into codes for different readable formats :eyecrazy
