I'm not much of a geek, but is c:\winnt1 the location of your OS instead of c:\winnt?
On my system autoexec.nt has the following;
@echo off
REM AUTOEXEC.BAT is not used to initialize the MS-DOS environment.
REM AUTOEXEC.NT is used to initialize the MS-DOS environment unless a
REM different startup file is specified in an application's PIF.
REM Install CD ROM extensions
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\mscdexnt.exe
REM Install network redirector (load before dosx.exe)
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir
REM Install DPMI support
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx
This is the original code that Window installed. The purpose of autoexec.nt is to do most of what autoexec.bat did in DOS. If you install a DOS based program autoexec.bat would be modified in some cases. If that DOS based program is aware of Windows NT it would modify autoexec.nt too. Otherwise you would have to modify autoexec.nt to match autoexec.bat by hand.
If you did not install a DOS based program Windows should not have to bother with autoexec.nt. This file is used to automaticly execute a program when the OS is started. See what programs your copy of autoexec.nt is telling your system to run at start up.
I think some malware modified your autoexec.nt file start some program at start up.
I hope this helps.
BTW, if I were to put REM in front of the lines without REM, Window might not be able to run DOS (or Window 95 that depended on DOS) programs run anymore. I say might because I think that on start up Windows puts into the registery anything it finds in autoexec.nt, config.nt, and *.ini files.
I don't care for the way the registery contains both system configurations and program settings. These should be separated.
:D Okay, so I'm a nerd.

:bowdown Thanks for the helpful info. that explains it. i do believe it is some sort of malware. I have a handful of programs that are suppose to get rid of malware and adware. but they keep missing a couple.
yeah i do believe my OS is in the WINNT1. its win 2000 pro
i tried locating the file in question in that folder but couldnt find it. i found it in the WINNT folder. BAH!!!
